    Chikomba RDC honours Manyuchi

    CHIVHU -
Chikomba Rural District Council has donated 3,5 hectares of land worth $45 000 to boxing legend Charles Manyuchi to honour him for flying the Zimbabwean flag high by becoming the World Boxing Council Champion welterweight.
The stand which is behind Di Rozvi Complex was also serviced at a total cost of $50 000.
Chikomba RDC CEO Luckson Matare confirmed the allocation in a telephone interview with The Mirror. He however, said the decision is so far only approved at Council level. A final approval is required from the Ministry of Lands and from Chikomba residents.
Manyuchi confirmed the development. He said he had decided to develop the stand into a sports academy so as to give back to the community, Mashonaland East province and the country as a whole.
The sporting academy will cater for various sports disciplines which include netball, volleyball, boxing, swimming and basketball.
The honor came as an acknowledgement for his outstanding boxing performances after he successfully defended his crown in Italy last year in July and became the World Boxing Council welterweight bronze champion.
The honor also came as a way of motivating him and everyone who is into sporting activities.
Manyuchi said he chose to stay in Chivhu and will make efforts to add value in the community which is very supportive of him.
The honor came after the President Robert Mugabe presented to him $5 000 for his outstanding performance during the WBC International championship.
Member of Parliament for Chikomba West constituency Mike Bimha also facilitated in the offering of the stand.
Manyuchi said although the academy will cater for everyone, he is mainly targeting the less privileged people who had not been able to showcase their talents.
