    – The head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Masvingo, Bishop Michael Dickson Bhasera has ordained five new priests and three deacons.
The eight were ordained at a colourful ceremony held at Silveira Mission in Bikita and attended by thousands of Catholics on July 15, 2016.
The newly ordained priests are Tawanda Chitumba (Mukaro Mission), Vincent Roy Moyo (St DonBosco), Wilbrode Godzongi (Gokomere), ChrispenTawanda Watadza (St Anthony, Zaka) and Onismo Makova (Matiore Parish, Bikita).
The newly ordained Makova is famous for having served an internationally televised Christmas Mass with Pope Francis in Rome in December 2014.
The three ordained deacons are Kudzai Bakuri, Donald Zvemisha, and Cephas Manyanye.
Also attending the occasion was Masvingo Vicar General Father Walter Nyatsanza and Archdiocese of Harare Vicar General Kennedy Muguti.
Speaking during the ordination ceremony, Bishop Bhasera emphasised that the newly ordained priests and deacons are meant to serve and live like Christ, preach the word of God and bring people to Christ.
The sermon was given by Father Andrew Foto who said the priests and deacons had opened a new chapter in their lives which needs total commitment, humility and a heart for the people. He congratulated and wished them successful careers in serving in the House of God.
"I would like to thank all of you for choosing the best thing in your lives which is to serve in the House of God.  I also encourage parishioners to send your children to seminary so that they become priests.
"I also want to extend my sincere gratitude to the parents of these gentlemen for bringing them up, helping them in making the best decision and paying for all their expenses in seminary," said Fr Foto.
Lawyer Collen Maboke who is also a Catholic thanked Bishop Bhasera for his vision which he said was coming from God. He said that Bishop Bhasera's vision had seen more and more priests being ordained in Masvingo.
"Sekuru Bhasera is doing a lot in this Diocese like building more schools, more mission centres and the health delivery system has been improved in most Catholic hospitals," said Maboke.
On Sunday July 16, 2016 the newly ordained priests held their first Mass and celebrations at their respective parents' homes.
Father Vincent Roy Moyo celebrated his ordination with church, friends and relatives at St Don Bosco. Speaker after speaker described Fr Moyo as a quiet, humble and committed person in the house of the Lord.
