    Victoria High School wins YOCAF preliminaries

    …As Yocaf Selects the Dream Team


    - It was a day filled with emotion both on stage and offstage as high schools from Masvingo province competed in drama to qualify for the main festival. At the end of the day, it was tears of joy for Victoria high school who reigned supreme.
    The Youth Cultural Arts Festival remains the biggest youth festival in Zimbabwe and has now attracted international recognition. The months of preparation culminated in high schools competing in drama in the provincial preliminaries held at Victoria high school this past weekend.
    There was an improvement in terms of quality of productions from the schools as compared to last year. They put an extra effort in their staging, costumes, stories and the general acting was equally good. It was a tight affair which saw Victoria high school emerging victorious while Pamushana high school came second and Gutu high school and Hippo Valley high school were tied on third position.
    Other schools who competed included, Mukaro, Mapanzure, Masvingo Christian college, Mucheke and Zimuto while Serima and Silveira could not make it.
    Other awards given out on the day were the Best Costume and Stagecraft which went to Victoria high school and the best technical went to Mapanzure high school. The Best Actress award went to Mufaro Munyai from Victoria high school and the Best Supporting Actress to Andile Gatsi from Pamushana high school. Sheldon Tinashe Manzou from Pamushana high school won the Best Actor award while Joel Masvanganye won the best supporting actor award. The best cameo award went to Tonderai Muchenje from Hippo Valley high school.
    The Headmaster of Victoria high school, John Muzamani was proud of the school's achievement, 'The students are on cloud 9 and as a school we are very excited and appreciation goes to the students in the drama club and their teachers for reaching this fete. We want to improve and make sure we win the finals.'
    Meanwhile, Yocaf selected from among the competing schools, students that they considered to have exceptional talent to be part of the Dream Team. This team will perform at the finals to be held beginning of August. The team will also get an opportunity to be selected to be on the Zimbabwe Team which will compete in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood, United States of America from July 7 – 17, 2016.
    The selection process is not over yet as the organisation as still looking for talents in modelling, acting, vocal and vocal group, dancing, instruments and variety.
    The Dream Team selected include Joel Masvanganye and Mufaro Munyai both from Victoria high school, Cain Musengi from Hippo Valley high school, Tinotendaishe Kavhura, Sheldon Tinashe Manzou and Andile Gatsi from Pamushana high school, Ruvimbo Gombakomba from Gutu high school and Charlotte Magiya from Pamavambo in Zvishavane.
    Yocaf now turns its attention to other provinces for the preliminaries before the finals being celebrated under the theme, 'Untold Stories #breakingthesilence.'
