One squat toilet for all at Jerera

ZAKA – Health in as far as ablution is concerned does not seem to be a priority for almost all local authorities in Zimbabwe with men and woman passing through Zaka's biggest bus rank at Jerera using one squat toilet.
The men's toilet at Jerera Growth Point bus terminus has not been working for some time now and to go round the problem, men and women are taking turns to use the female toilet.
The toilet is used by long distance travelers and vendors at the rank and long queues are always seen at the toilet. As a result the majority are now using the back of the toilet to relieve themselves.
Ward 9 Councilor Peter Imbayarwo confirmed the situation and said that he has reported the matter to council.
"I reported the matter to council but they still haven't solved the problem. I am yet to get their reasons for that," said Imbayarwo.
Zaka RDC chief executive officer David Majaura also confirmed the situation and said the toilets were blocked by some mentally disturbed people who threw stones in the septic tank. He said that council was working on the problem and both toilets should be working by next week.
The situation is a recipe for a health disaster as the place also doesn't have a tape for people to wash their hands after visiting the toilet.
One irate person at the rank said vendors were visiting the toilets and then handle fruits that they were selling to the public without washing their hands.
The Rural District Council has built another pay flash toilet with bathrooms and taps inside but this has not been opened though although it was scheduled to so January.
