    On the move...

    - Gweru City Council has appointed two substantive heads of departments to fill posts that fell vacant five years ago.
Former Director Of Engineering Services at Chegutu Municipality, Robson Manatsa has been appointed to the same post at Gweru. He takes over from Praymore Mhlanga who was in acting capacity.
Shingirai Tigere, the outgoing Gokwe North chief executive officer has been appointed director of housing and community services. Unity Jaji acted in the community services department prior to Tigere's appointment.
The new directors assumed duty on April 1. 2006.
Gweru City Council Commission chairperson, Tsunga Mhangami told The Mirror that the appointments are in line with recommendations of an audit report instituted by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.
"The new directors assume full control of the said departments which did not have substantive directors for a long time now. The appointments are in line with the recommendations of the audit report and I am confident that they will go a long way in bringing sanity in Gweru," he said.
The Council has been operating with a single departmental head, Edgar Mwedzi who doubles up as the acting town clerk is still to recruit a substantive director of health and the city's chamber secretary.
This comes as council abandoned its plans to recruit a medical doctor to assume the position of director of health services in the Midlands capital.
The decision was reversed after Council took into consideration the fact that the local authority does not have its own hospital. Council then resolved to recruit an environmental health technician who has a public health orientation as well as a clinical officer to oversee all council clinics.business news
