    - Former light weight boxing title holder Wellington Phiri popularly known as Mau-mau has opened a boxing academy in Mucheke to resurrect the sport in Masvingo.
Mau-Mau who won many titles like African Boxing Union during his hey days has plans to groom boxers who will one day turn professional and win titles for the province.
"The academy we have opened is to nurture talent and help young people to desist from drug abuse and criminal activities in the society," said the legendary boxer.
The academy  has only managed to attract a few trainees due to lack of training equipment and proper facilities which has seen Mau-Mau appealing to those with sport at heart to assist with training gear.
"I appeal to able individuals to assist with the necessary training equipment to raise the academy high; boxing should not die with me or Manyuchi, said Mau-Mau.
The academy is targeting all sexes between the ages of 8-25 to join training for professional and personal endeavors as the academy training sessions are free of charge.
Mau-mau has trained many boxers such as Charles Manyuchi who has won international titles and will this week fight for the WBC Welterweight silver title against Russian Dmitry Mikhayleno.
Training sessions are held at Mucheke hall from Monday to Friday from 3pm to 5pm.sport news
