    Zimsec employee arrested for selling counterfeit set books


    – The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZimSec) has dragged one of its employees Notice Magodoro (28) and his acquaintances Moses Chihowa (25) and Ramoti Chinhondo (33) to court after they counterfeited a set of textbooks on February 2, 2016 and then sold them to schools.
    The books belong to Book Love publishers, Mambo Press and College Press in Zimbabwe.
    The trio was charged with contravening a section of the copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act.
    It is the State case that the trio were asked to sell the set books to schools but instead they reproduced 14 Mutakunanzva wenhetembo, 16 Kereke inofa, 13 Dare Retariro which belongs to Booklove Publishers, 23 Pfuma ndeyamaoko, Kuda muhondo  which belongs to Mambo Press, without the authority of the owner of the copyright.
    The three also reprinted 106 Green Books and 119 Blue books in the name of Zimsec and reproduced 14 copies of Museve Usingapotse set books which belong to College Press without the owner's permission.
    Mambo Press is represented by Esau Mudungwe who is the production manager from Gweru.
     The court heard that the 3 were apprehended when Magodoro's motor vehicle, Honda CRV of registration number ACY 7927 was searched while parked at Masvingo Spar.
     Detectives recovered books that were illegally reproduced.
    It is also alleged that the 3 accused persons made a fake invoice number 00048 and receipt number 073 and issued to Chifedza High School.
    Magistrate Sibongile Mkandla postponed the case to April 25 next week.
