    YOCAF attracts Hollywood

ARGUABLY the biggest youth festival in Zimbabwe, the popular annual Youth Cultural Arts Festival has continued to grow from strength to strength.
It is quite evident that Yocaf continues to improve year after year in terms of quality of programming, festival content and audience numbers.
The impact has been so great that Yocaf has managed to attract the attention of the World Championships of performing arts based in Hollywood, United States of America.
The coordinators of the World Champions of performing arts have already started coming into the country to scout for talent to take for the competition.
The Yocaf provincial preliminaries are at an advanced stage with the competition kicking off in the third week of May in Masvingo before moving to other provinces.
The preliminaries will see three schools qualifying for the grand fete where they will battle it out in the finals for the top award.
This year's festival will be celebrated under the theme 'Untold Stories #Breakingthesilence.' Speaking on the theme the Coordinator of Yocaf, Precious Mudzingwa said, ' As a society and a people, we have stories that we have kept hidden for fear of one thing or another, there are stories that have gone untold for different reasons and now need to be told as they are real to us and shape who we are.'
Last year Yocaf partnered with the national broadcaster (ZBC) and this saw the ultimate beaming of the festival live and in the aftermath greatly increased the reach of the festival to millions of viewers.
This exposure made an indelible stamp of Yocaf as a household name and as a much sought-after artistic platform.
The partnership between Yocaf and ZBC is set to continue in the upcoming events.
Yocaf has already started running a series of activities and these will become part of its programming. Some of the activities include the Young Women in Arts and Media, Drama Teacher training, Xpressive Hot Pot, YAK boot camps among others.
