Residents call for a Commission to run Chiredzi TC affairs

    – Chiredzi residents who are buoyed by a Ministerial audit team currently doing work at the local town council have called for the suspension of the entire team of councillors whom they accuse of conflict of interest allegedly because the majority are owners of businesses in the town.
The residents who met last week is inviting the Minister of Local Government and Public Works Saviour Kasukuwere to appoint a Commission to run the affairs of the town. Last week, the investigating team ordered for the arrest of Chiredzi Town chairman, Francis Moyo for lying to Police that it was a council driver who was involved in an accident with a council vehicle when in fact it is suspected that it was the chairman himself who was driving the vehicle.
A full council meeting on Thursday endorsed the investigating team's instruction to have the chairman arrested.
Residents' representatives told The Mirror that they had evidence of mismanagement against council and hence they wanted a commission to take over.
"We thank Minister Kasukuwere for sending a team of investigators in response to complaints which we sent to his office. This council has been taking us for granted for many years and with irregularities being unearthed by the investigating team we are calling for the suspension of both councillors and council management. Anyone who will be found on the wrong side of the law should face the chop. In our complaint to the Minister we cited a lot of irregularities and we produced evidence of the irregularities to the investigating team. When a town chair is arrested due to abuse of office as what he did with the council vehicle, he should be relieved of his duties," said Edmore Makovere the Chairperson of Chirredzi Business Community Association.local news
