One squat toilet for hundreds at Masvingo passports office

    – Only one toilet is working at the Masvingo passports office and hundreds of people including Government officers are using that one hole.
The situation is a recipe for a health disaster particularly for the Government officials who also use a tap inside the toilets to get water for consumption.
As a result of the state of the toilets, many people have resorted to use the bush along the industrial railway line and behind Chitima market.
Hundreds of people queue for passports at the offices everyday and in addition to that the building houses several Government departments including Home Affairs, Labour and Social Services, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and National Arts Council.
Government officials who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals said it was a nightmare to go to the toilets as they can never be maintained in a clean state because of the huge number of people who use them.
"As officers, we need a smart place when we visit the toilet but this is not possible. Sometimes we have to walk long distances to toilets at other Government departments because this one will be overcrowded and filth," said one official.
The Provincial Registrar,  Sithembeni Chitsa whose department is the biggest at the block offices said she could not comment as there were many other Government departments using the same toilet
"I cannot comment on the matter since our department is not the only one that use the premises, there are various ministries that use the building. You can ask the ministry of Public Works to get  finer details" said Chitsa. local news
