NAC to stage sporting events across Zvishavane

The National Aids Council (NAC) in partnership with the Ministry of Sports for Zvishavane District will this week stage various sporting events for the youths across the district starting in Zvegona, Ngomayebani and Siboza.
The sporting events will be running under the theme Youth education through sports (YES) and the National Aids Council will take this opportunity to offer free HIV/AIDS testing and counseling to the youths.
Speaking to The Mirror, the Senior Sport Development Officer for Zvishavane District, Ronald Sibanda said that the Ministry partnered with NAC in organizing these sporting events for the youths because they know that is one of the easiest ways of getting hold of the youths.
"As a Ministry we saw it fit to partner with National Aids Council as we are able to mobilize the youths through sport such that they may be able to get free HIV/AIDs testing and counseling. Many youths are ashamed of going to new start centers to get tested there," said Sibanda.
A NAC official who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said there was need for more awareness campaigns on HIV and Aids and sexually transmitted diseases for the youth.
"Yes we are going to do sporting events for the youths across and take the opportunity to offer HIV/AIDs testing and counseling to them," he said.
