    Maglas Stadium a joke - B/Strikers

    - Border Strikers Football Club which has had a false start in the jungles of premiership soccer has described Maglas Stadium where they played their second league match as a big joke.
The team's match against champions Chicken Inn on the 11th hour was moved to the Zvishavane stadium after the PSL Grounds Committee's failed to inspect Dulivhadzimo Stadium on time denying Border Strikers (Vhavheneki) home advantage.
Vhavheneki want to play before its own fans at Dulivhadzimo.
"The field of play (Maglas) is a joke…it's a potato field, the lawn is in a bad state," Border Strikers secretary general Rodlet Chigwinya borrowed the famous Moses Chunga description of Chipadze Stadium in Bindura to define a rugged Maglas Stadium.
Chigwinya was writing a communiqué to his club officials after the match they lost by a solitary goal in added time.
He said unlike PSL demands during upgrading of Dulivhadzimo Stadium,Maglas stadium has no aluminium goal posts and the perimeter fence is twice higher than the required 1.5 metres.
Chigwinya said the perimeter fence was porous at 18 points allowing people to watch for free.
"The ground has no turn-styles or and tall grass surrounds the entry points and cash rooms subjecting players and spectators to the dangers of snakes and scorpions," wrote Chigwinya in a letter which The Mirror has a copy of.
Chigwinya whose team partnered the Beitbridge Town Council and the community to overhaul their stadia accused the PSL of deliberately announcing the match venue as Mandava Stadium knowing Maglas was unsuitable.
More than $100 000 has been poured into upgrading Dulivhadzimo Stadium which now has sitting terraces, a VIP enclosure, aluminium goals posts, modern substitutes benches and a larger playing field.
The technical team of Harare giants Dynamos held to a two all draw by Vavheneki during a pre-season training friendly match said after the match Dulivhadzimo was in a perfect condition.
Beitbridge residents have had no kind words for the PSL saying they should have long dispatched their inspection team considering the Zimbabwean season starts late.
"They should have long come to inspect the ground and give it a nod in the interests of spreading and promoting soccer," said Collen "Kodza" Moyo who supports Border Strikers.
Upgrading of Dulivhadzimo started soon after Border Strikers qualified for the premiership in October last year.
Two other Beitbridge soccer teams Underhill and Tripple B that played in the premiership used the stadium before it was upgraded to its current status.
PSL secretary general Kenny Ndebele said on Monday he could only be interviewed between 8am and 5pm when The Mirror called him to inquire about the findings of the PSL Grounds Committee.
"Can you call me between 8am and 5pm then I will answer your questions," said Ndebele only to say he will first communicate with the club when contacted on Tuesday morning.
"We first communicate with the club before the media," he quipped.
Chigwinya said about 300 people watched the match where his team held the Gamecocks only to concede a goal in the 93rd minute.
"PSL officials who were handling the finances left nothing for us and we failed to pay marshals who helped us during the match," he said.sport news
