    – The late Masvingo Mayor, Alderman Femias Foroma Joshua Chakabuda who served council in various capacities including being chair of different committees has been awarded the Civic Award.
Alderman Chakabuda is one of the three eminent persons to receive the award in the last 10 years. The award which was handed over by the current Mayor, Hubert Fidze was received on his behalf by his son Foroma Chakabuda.
The Mayor said that Chakabuda was being honoured for his hardwork and immense contribution to the development of the city and the unification of its people.
One of the landmark features that Chakabuda would be remembered for is the construction of a round-about along Masvingo Beitbridge Road. The realisation of that project was a result of arduous negotiations with the Ministry of Transport to build a roundabout after scores of lives were lost at the junction which had become Masvingo's worst black spot.
The civic award was a reward of hardworking displayed by the former mayor. The citation read; "Alderman Chakabuda served the City Council with distinction. He is being remembered for lobbying the Minister of Finance and for Transport for the construction of the roundabout/traffic circle near Flamboyant Hotel.
"He was elected into Council in 1995 and served Masvingo City Council up to his retirement in 2013.  During that time he worked as a deputy Mayor , chairman of the finance committee, chairman of the audit committee, chairman of the public works and the president of the urban councils association which he headed from 2008-13.
"The civic award was a reward of hard work displayed by the former mayor".
Foroma was close to tears when he received the award on behalf of his father. He exalted his father for his kindness and great humility which saw him uniting the people of Masvingo.
"I thank His Worship the Mayor of Masvingo, councillors, management and all those who played a part in the decision to award the Chakabuda family with this Civic Honour Award.  May I take this opportunity to remind you that  our hope is coming from you the city fathers, we need help from you when we are in need.  Unite us when we come to hard times. My father used to unite the city and developed it from grassroots...," said Foroma.
Chakabuda's wife Magie Chakabuda could not bear the pain and joy of the occasion as the death of her husband only last year is still fresh in her mind. She could neither collect the award nor give a testimony.local news
