    - Chivi Rural District Council (RDC) has resolved to set aside US$8 860 for the construction of open market toilets in all parts of the district.
The resolution was reached at a full council meeting which was held at Chivi RDC offices on Thursday.
Open markets are designated sites allocated by the responsible authorities where vendors from different parts of the country converge and sell their goods to the community for the whole day.
It is done once per month and these vendors pay $US5.
Some of the open markets which are going to benefit from this project include Chasiyatende, Dare, Chomuruvati, Takavarasha, Chivi Growth Point, Mhandamabwe, Maringire, Vuranda and Shindi.
"As the council we have resolved to build toilets at these open markets because these sites have many buyers and sellers and a toilet is a necessity.
"So US $8 860 has been set aside for the construction of these toilets across the district. Each open market is going to have two standard blair toilets," said Taurai Masvinu, the Council's Finance Chairperson.
Some of the huge projects that the Council is undertaking include the purchasing of the dumper used in roads, a tractor, purchasing of the cars of the council chairman Dr Killer Zivhu and the CEO Tariro Matavire.
The projects that were listed in their 2016 budget like rehabilitation of boreholes, construction of community halls and irrigation schemes are still being carried out by the council.
The council also said each ward in the district was receiving 80 bags of maize from Tongaat and the beneficiaries of this maize are people who are not benefiting from the Social welfare maize.local news
