    - Chivhu Resident Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga last week refused to give a further remand date for Aaron Marecha, a Chivhu taxi operator who is accused of having severely assaulted a Police officer.
A warrant of arrest has been issued for the State witness for contempt of court.
Marecha was remanded out of custody since January this year.
It is the state case that on December 24 2015, around midnight, Forward Sonai, a Police officer was patrolling on duty when he found a Police officer in the Criminal Investigations Department in a dispute with unknown people.
He intervened and tried to settle the dispute but Marecha distracted him. Sonai then tried to arrest Marecha but he hit the Police officer with a fist on his cheek and he fell onto the ground.
While the cop was lying on the ground, Marecha allegedly started to kick him with his booted foot on the head and he became unconscious. The accused then drove off with his motor vehicle and a bystander helped the officer.
Sonai sustained a swollen cheek.local news
