    – Masvingo General Hospital has over the last few weeks seen the birth of babies with rare abnormalities that have left even some medical practitioners shaken.
Two weeks ago the hospital saw a set of twins born with shocking deformities; one of the twins had an exceptionally big head and she died at birth while the other was born  without a head and she had to be taken to sleep by the doctors.
As if this was not enough, the hospital last week saw another baby being born with two large bowels of water hanging from its buttocks. Again the baby died at birth. The bowels looked like balls.
In a telephone interview with The Mirror Masvingo Provincial Medical Director Dr Amadeus Shamhu said the incident had not been reported to him and he referred questions to the Medical Supritentant, Dr Julius Chirengwa who confirmed the incident.
Dr. Chirengwa said that the disease is known as coccygeal sacral cancer.
Coccygeal sacral is defined as slow growing gelatinous extradural tumors with areas of hemorrhage and necrosis that often reach a large size and cause late onset compressive neurological symptoms.
"I am shocked with what is taking place at this hospital as two weeks back a baby without a head was born", said one of the nurses.
Another nurse who declined to be named for professional reasons said she had never come across such things in her working life.local news
