    – Sugarcane farmers in Chiredzi have been urged to use irrigation water sparingly as the dam levels in Masvingo Province have dropped to critical levels.
This appeal came as water is now being rationed and farmers are watering their crop twice per week.
Addressing Zimbabwe Sugarcane Development Association (ZSDA) Annual General Meeting held at Mkwasine Country Club on Friday last week, Zinwa represantative Charity Muchehiwa said it was now critical for sugarcane farmers to serve water since the dam levels have dropped drastically.
"I want to tell you that our dam levels in Masvingo province have now reached critical levels and there is need for you to serve water. Currently the dam levels stands as follows, Kyle 19,8%, Bangala 10,8%, Nyajena 89,9%, Tokwane 102,9%, Manjirenji 28,6%, Siya 54% and Muzhwi 1,2%.
"As of 1 January 2016 Kyle dams has received 165,5mls, Bangala 216mls, Nyajena 75mls and Manjirenji 165mls. Farmers should also pay their bills in time as well as negotiate for stop order facilities so that they pay their bills once off during the time in which they will sell their sugarcane to Tongaat Hulle," said Muchehiwa.local news
