    – A cholera outbreak has been reported in Chiredzi with three cases recorded at Chilonga Clinic.
Acting Masvingo Provincial Medical Director Amadeous Shamhu confirmed the outbreak but said there is only one case recorded at Chilonga Clinic. He said he is yet to receive details about the other two cases which were confirmed by sources in Chilonga area.
"I can confirm that there is one case of cholera which was detected at Chilonga Rural Clinic last week and the person was admitted for treatment.
"I am yet to get other details from Chiredzi about the other two cases which l cannot confirm right now. We are not sure of the source of the outbreak and our teams are on the ground to deal with any other new case" said Shamhu.
A source at Chilonga Business Centre said one person from Chitiyo Village was on Monday admitted at Chilonga Rural Clinic and on Thursday two more people were again admitted at the same clinic. Of the two one was from Chitiyo village while the other was from Gwaseche village. The source said two were treated and discharged while one was still admitted at the clinic.
"We have three fresh cases of cholera at our local clinic; two people are from Chitiyo village and the other from Gwaseche village. We think this is caused by unsafe drinking water which people are drawing from Runde River.
"The spreading of the disease might be fast since Chilonga Secondary School has no water after its borehole broke down and it will be difficult to transport the patients to Chiredzi since Runde river is flooded," said the source. local news
