    Mirror wins Road Safety Award yet again

    HARARE – The Mirror, the biggest newspaper in the Southern Region has for the second time in three years won the Best Road Safety Student Reporter of The Year Award.
    The award which was sponsored by Mimosa Mining Company was won by Ellen Mlambo, a Midlands State University Media and Society Studies Student who has just completed her industrial attachment with the newspaper.
    The Mirror was also judged The First Runner-Up in the Best Print Media House Category at the awards that were organised by the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe.
    Nkulumani Mlambo and Tawanda Homba who are both journalists with The Mirror received nomination medals for their entries.
    The Mirror won the inaugural Student Reporter of The Year Award in 2014 through Rumbidzai Ndlovu who was also with MSU.
    This year's awards were held under the theme; eradicating human error in road traffic collisions.
    The prize was handed over to Mlambo by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Engineer Michael Madanha who was the guest of honour at the event.
    Other companies that sponsored the event included Total Zimbabwe, Toyota Zimbabwe, Nyaradzo Group, CBZ, ICZ, Southern Region Trading Company (SRTC), GHACO, ZINARA, Champions Insurance, PRINTWORKS, FMG, VISIBLE Brands, Clothing Emprorium, CARPRO, Ring Driving School, Jeap Audio Visual.
    Engineer Madanha expressed his appreciation for the role which the media plays in assisting in taming the road traffic jungle in Zimbabwe and added that the aim of the awards was to enhance the appreciation of the critical role of the media.
    "The main aim of these awards is to enhance an indepth appreciation of the critical role of the media in taming the traffic jungle in Zimbabwe hence contribute towards continuous reduction of deaths, injury and loss of property due to road traffic collisions," said Madanha.
    He also appreciated the winners and reminded them that as they put pen to paper about road safety issues, they will be having a responsibility that goes beyond the call of duty. news
