    - Veteran football administrator Nobioth Magiwzi has been elected unopposed the new chairman for Zifa Masvingo province after close of nominations on Friday last week.
Tedius Machawira the Zifa Eastern Region administrator confirmed the development to The Mirror in an interview.
"I can confirm that Magwizi has been duly elected chairman for Masvingo province without opposition as he is the only one who paid the required amount for the elections on the last day of nominations," said Machawira.
Festus Dumbu who had earlier on expressed willingness to contest the election pulled out of the race at the last minute leaving Magwizi the only candidate, the plebiscite was slated for March 5.
Magwizi believes that the fact that he was not challenged means that the people have faith in him and the most suitable person to lead the province.
"It clearly shows the confidence that the electorate have in me as the best person to deliver because of the vast experience in football administration that I have," said Magwizi who could not hide his joy.
The post became vacant after the former chairman Welligton Muchemwa was suspended by the board after allegations of misappropriation of funds.
Magwizi also promised to bring stability to the province which has been torn apart with different factions fighting from all corners.
"The board has been divided over the missing funds of late and this was affecting the smooth running of the game in the province, but all this will be a thing of the past," said Magwizi.
Magwizi has a rich football history dating back to 2006 when he was elected the club chairman of the then Eastern Region Division One side Gutu Leorpards FC.
In 2007 he was elected the chairman of FC Victoria until it was promoted into the top flight league in 2010.
The following year he was appointed into the Zifa board in charge of development and went on to become the Masvingo United chairman in 2013.
In 2014 Magwizi was elected vice chairman of the province a post he held until he became chairman.
Meanwhile, elections for the post of chairman for the Eastern Region will go ahead on March 5 as there are two candidates who have paid their $1050 nomination fees, Davison Muchena current board member finance and Ashel Mutungura a Buffaloes FC executive member.
The chairman's post fell vacant after Piraishe Mabhen was elected into the current Zifa board in the December 2015 elections which saw Philip Chiyangwa being elected president.news
