    – The Ministry of Local Government has approved Chiredzi Rural District Council`s $4,02 million budget for 2016.
Council chief executive officer Isaac Matsilele said he received confirmation of the budget approval from the Ministry a few weeks ago.
One of the key items of the budget is the completion of all capital projects that were started last year and among them is the development of the road network.
"Government has approved our 2016 budget and we are very happy about that. The Ministry highly commended us for the good work we are doing in our district. They in particular pointed out to our books that are audited on time and our approach of involving stakeholders in council work.
"Our 2016 tariffs will remain the same as those of 2015 and we have small reductions on small items.
"Our major projects are centred on infrastructural development as shown by the acquisition of road equipment last year. We hope to embark on massive road maintenance drive to open up our dilapidated road network," said Matsilele.
Matsilele said his council had since taken delivery of the second part of road maintenance equipment after getting a $0,5million loan from a local bank. He said tractors, a 7 tonne lorry and three Nissan pickup trucks were paid for and some of them are now at council offices.
Chiredzi Rural District Council is one of the few local authorities in Zimbabwe which does not have credits.  The council have a record of good management as it undertakes capital projects every budget year.business news
