BIKITA - Samuel Gozhori Ushe, a 63-year-old man from Ushe Village under Chief Mukanganwi in Bikita will languish in prison for the next 18 years after he raped a 13-year-old minor at knife-point and infected her with STI.
Ushe was convicted by Masvingo Regional Magistrate, Collet Ncube after facing trial on three counts of rape.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
State counsel, Sofia Busvumani told the Court that sometime in February 2015 the accused approached the complainant who was washing her clothes and jokingly told her that he would visit her at her homestead in the evening. The complainant did not take it seriously.
Ushe then came to the complainant's homestead at around 8pm wielding a knife and a torch. He forced the bedroom door open thereby awakening her and her 9-year-old brother who was in the same room. Fear seized her and she began to scream. The accused then entered the room and threatened to cut off her head if she continued to scream.
"He threatened to chop me with the knife into pieces if I continued to scream," the complainant told court.
The accused went on to forcibly remove her skirt and underpants and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Using the same modus operandi, the accused came twice on different dates raping the complainant while her young brother watched helplessly.
On October19, 2015 the complainant told one Chipo Hungwe and her sister that she discovered a whitish fluid passing out of her private parts. The two examined her and noticed clear signs of a Sexual Transmitted Infection. The matter was reported to the Police leading to the arrest of the accused, while the complainant was taken to Silveira Hospital for treatment. news
