    Humble Fr Mabonga remembered

Masvingo – Catholics from around Masvingo last Saturday attended a church service in memory of the late Fr Robert Stephen Mabonga (pictured) who every speaker described as a humble shepherd.
He was described as a caring, loving, good shepherd.
Fr Mabonga died last year at Silveria Mission Hospital.
Tens of Catholics attended the mass and among them was Retired Bishop Martin Munyanyi from Gweru Diocese who led the church service.
Fr Mabonga's CV is littered with leadership positions in the church including being an adviser to Bishop Michael Bhasera of Masvingo Diocese.
Fr Vincent Muzenda said Fr Mabonga would still take advice from him despite that the later was much more senior in priesthood.
"Fr Mabonga was ordained as a priest when I was in form three but because of his humility he would take advice from me as the priest in charge at Gokomere regardless of my little experience," said Fr Muzenda.
Fr Mabonga was born on February 17, 1967. He did his secondary education at Chikwingwizha Seminary from 1981 to 1984 and then proceeded to Chishawasha Major Seminary to study Philosophy and Theology from 1984 to 1991.
He was ordained at St Pius Donga in Shurugwi on September 28, 1991 by the late Bishop Francis Mugadzi of Gweru Diocese. In Rome Fr Mabonga did a Doctorate in Missiology which is the study of mission. When he came back he worked in Harare Synod House in charge of Youth of Zimbabwe. news
