Chivi Police officers up in arms against monetary contributions

    Nkulumani Mlambo

CHIVI - Female Police officers and wives of Police officers stationed at Chivi Growth point are up in arms against their superiors who they allege are forcing them to make monetary contributions to obscure schemes that they have no control over.
A female officer who could not be named for fear of victimisation said they are forced to pay a joining fee of US$10 to the organisation.
"They coerce us to contribute to Kuyedza Women's Club, an organisation we have no control over. Each time there are events in Harare like sports we are made to pay towards those games even if we do not participate," she said.
Contacted for comment Chief Superintended Francis Phiri said he has not heard such a complaint from the officers and their wives and advised this reporter to get information from provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula.
Inspector Mazula admitted the existence of the club but refuted claims of any complaints from members.
"They force our husbands to contribute to the women's club from their salaries yet we derive no benefit from the club, we suspect our money is being abused by certain superiors. They force our husbands because they know if they come to us directly we would refuse," fumed one woman married to an officer at Chivi Police station.
Sources say the last contributions were done in November last year where members were asked to pay $15 but there was no explanation pertaining to the purpose of the money.
The Mirror gathers that there are over 65 members who contribute to the club.
"I can confirm that there is a club for women within ZRP but I talked to Chief Sup Phiri and he told me that there are no complaints received from members of the club in Chivi," said Inspector Mazula.
Meanwhile, ZRP officers from around the province who reside at Police camps are being made to pay $10 every month as development levy but allege that this is rent they are paying in disguise. news
