CHIVHU – Chivhu has a new kid on the bloc. A people's bakery called Star Bakery has just opened in the town and has immediately employed 70 people.
The bakery which is located at Stand Number 537 York Street is a people's bakery in that it will be delivering bread to the doorsteps of every outlet and selling bread at wholesale prices so that the product is affordable to the people.
Deliveries will be made to the remotest parts of Chivhu, Buhera, Chirumanzi and Gutu districts.
The bakery has the capacity to produce 100 000 to 250 000 loaves per day.
"Our aim is to provide a service closer to the people," said Darlington Jonas, Star Bakery's general manager.
"We deliver the bread to all our customers and we are reaching the remotest areas. As our business expands, we will employ even more people," he said.
Jonas said the bread is being sold at an affordable wholesale price to enable small scale business people to make reasonable profits. The retail price is also relatively low.
He said, "even individuals who are not employed can start their own small businesses of selling bread because the wholesale prize is relatively low. We want to promote self-sustenance in the society."
As a social corporate responsibility, Star Bakery has been assisting Chivhu General Hospital and the prison with bread programme.
For the benefit of society, Star Bakery will launch a programme that will see the less privileged, particularly the old and widows being assisted.news
