    GZU to build world class sporting facilities

    Masvingo - Plans are underway for the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) to construct world class sporting facilities at arguably the fastest growing tertiary institution in trhe country to complement academic studies.
    This was said by the acting Vice Chancellor Dr Andrew chindanya who was the guest of honour at the 2015 annual sports awards held at Herbert Chitepo law school on Saturday.
     "I know that GZU has no proper sporting facilities at the moment but plans are underway to construct state of the art facilities," he said.
    Several students who excelled in various sporting disciplines in the year 2015 were honored for their achievements.
    Sportsman of the year went to Gift Zhuwao who won gold at the 2015 Zimbabwe Univesities Sporting Association (ZUSA) games 10 000m, silver in the 5000m and was number 25 out of 31 in the Federation International FISU games in south Korea.
    Sports woman of the year went to Sekai Rwodzi who scooped gold in the 800m, 4x400m at the ZUSA games, 4x400m gold at the  Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sporting Union (ZTISU) games, 4x400m gold and silver in 800m at the  Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi (ZIZAMA) games.
    Paralympics sportsman of the year went to Sam Gotosa who won gold in javelin and shot put at the Zimbabwe National Paralympics 2015.
    Paralympics sports woman of the year was Marble Shangwe a gold medalist in 40m, 100m, 200m, 400m, javelin and a silver medalist in shot put at the ZTISU Paralympics games. sport
