CHIREDZI – Triangle FC bowed out of the CAF Confederations Cup at the weekend at the hands of FC Nouakchott of Mauritania in a match that they felt the referees doctored to help the North Africans to proceed to the next stage.
The Sugar Sugar Boys won the second leg play offs match at Barbourfields Stadium 3-2 failing shot of two goals to overturn the 2 nil defeat they suffered away in Nouakchott a week ago.
Speaking after the match Triangle gaffer Taurai Mangwiro said the field of play was not even as the referees made various decisions which robbed the team of its chances to proceed to the mini league.
Triangle players were determined to overturn the 2:0 deficit in Mauritania two weeks earlier but players were frustrated by the match officials’ biased handling of the game, said Mangwiro.
“We lost the match but as you all saw the officials on the pitch and touchlines made various decisions that favoured our opponents. I don’t know how CAF will assess the performance of these officials but as a team we feel the results were pre-planned in favor of our opponents but at the end of the day we say its African football and we now shift our focus to retain Chibuku Super Cup and improve our position in the local league,” said Mangwiro.
The match was handled by Ring Nyler Malong, Casim Madir Dehiya, Robert Henry and Allen Michael James from South Sudan as well as Maxwell Mtonga from Malawi who was the match commissioner.
Fans stood up in surprise as one match officials made one bad decision after another.
