Tongogara students get accommodation at Unki Mine

SHURUGWI – Some 106 students from Tongogara High are now staying at Unki Mine, some 30km from their school after their hostels were destroyed by fire last week.
The hostel caught fire on the October 23, 2019 leaving the learners stranded.
Blankets, learners’ property and a school truck were destroyed.
The school provides a mobile service to and from Unki daily between 6am and 3pm. This is draining the school coffers.
Local authorities in Shurugwi South called for a stakeholder’s emergency meeting to find a lasting solution to the problem last week. The idea attracted community members and the business community.
A 22-member committee was set up to mobilize resources and fuel for the bus.
