MURAMBINDA -  A Buhera serial thief narrowly escaped a longer jail term after that the court discovered that his suspended sentence for a previous and similar crime had expired a few days earlier.
Ringson Musviki (46) of Gamanya Village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera was recently found guilty of stealing  Sam Choto's window frames.
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail by Magistrate Sande and six months of the sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour. However, the State later raised that Musviki had a criminal record in 2014 and six months sentence for that crime were suspended for five years on condition that he did not commit a similar offence in the period.
The magistrate tried to add the suspended six months to the new sentence so that the accuse could spend a full year in jail but as he did so it was discovered that the five years in which this six months applied had just expired a few days earlier.
Musviki had further luck after the court was told that he was sick and the magistrate then reduced the sentence to four months which he then went to suspend on condition that he paid RTGS$600 fine not later than December this year.
