MASVINGO – Pupils at Herentals Private College in Masvingo marched through the streets on Thursday last week as they complained against payment of their monthly fees in foreign currency and alleged poor service.
They also demonstrated against the toilets which they said are inadequate for the population of students.
The demonstration comes barely a week after teachers at the college’s Beitbridge branch went on strike demanding that their salaries be paid in Rands.
The students who spoke to The Mirror reporter on condition of anonymity claimed that they were not having lessons despite the fact that they were paying monthly fees of US$20. They claimed that this was the situation since August this year.
Efforts to get a comment from the college were fruitless as the school head refused to talk to the Press and referred all questions to a spokesperson said to be in Harare.
The demand for fees in foreign currency is illegal.
The students sang revolutionary songs as they marched through the streets and demanded that the college reimburse them their money. They threatened further action if the college did not reimburse them.
