Kurauone, Gumbi clash at MDC meeting

MASVINGO – MDC activists clashed at a post congress meeting chaired by the party’s national organising secretary Amos Chibaya at the Rhodhene Provincial offices on Saturday.
The meeting was called to discuss post-congress issues including bringing together factions that were fighting in the party.
The Mirror has videos of clashes and running battles that took place outside the party offices gates. The paper is also told that there was a fierce clash between MDC provincial chairman James Gumbi and party national youth chairman Godfrey Kurauone.
Sources who attended the meeting said Kurauone was forced to withdraw his statement by Chibaya after he said ‘pfutseki’ to Gumbi during the meeting.
There are also allegations that the youth who caused the clashes outside the gate belonged to Kurauone who allegedly belongs to a camp that is opposed to Gumbi and has a parallel structure that they wanted into the meeting.
Efforts to get a comment from Gumbi were futile.
Kurauone said declined to comment and referred all questions to the provincial party spokesperson Derrick Charamba.
Charamba said he was not at the meeting but added that there is no basis for Kurauone and Gumbi to fight. He said tha Kuraone is under the purview of Gumbi when he is in Masvingo and added that Kurauone belonged to the youth and not main wing.
