MASVINGO – Masvingo deputy mayor, Wellington Mawende has donated groceries to an unemployed widow in his ward (Ward 6) who stays with three of her children who are disabled and confined to the wheel chair.
The children are also not going to school.
Mawende made the donation from the house where Junior Nyoni stays in Hillside in Mucheke on Monday.
The deputy mayor was told that the children were born without any disabilities but these emerged as they grew up. The disabilities were caused by an unknown ailment.
Nyoni said the children started to have fits that led to walking disabilities as they grew up and then they were wheelchair bound. The three disabled children are Grace (27 ), Canajas (20) and Mercy(18) Nyoni. Her husband passed away last year.
Nyoni has two other children but these do not live with disabilities.
Nyoni whose only source of income comes from the chicken that she rears pleaded with the deputy mayor for a residential stands so that her children can live freely.
She also appealed for assistance so that the children could go to school. She thanked the deputy mayor for the donation and said that this was the first time ever that she got such a gift.
Mawende said as a City Father he would lead by example and the donation is to set an example to others so that they do the same disadvantaged people in their communities.
