Boterekwa Shurugwi Road under threat from gold panners

SHURUGWI-The Department of Roads under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has appealed to the Police to evict illegal gold panners who are causing serious damage to the Boterekwa Shurugwi Road posing a threat to livestock and motorists as they are now digging under the road.
The appeal was made by the Roads manager David Dhliwayo during a district development committee meeting held at the District Development Coordinator’s office, Langton Mupeta on Wednesday last week.
“We are appealing to the responsible authorities like the Police to intervene before the road gives in. Illegal gold pan-ners are digging pits under the road, although we tried to fill the pits the panners come back and dig them up again. Serious measures must be taken before the onset of the rainy season as the road may collapse cutting off communica-tion between major towns or causing serious accidents,” said Dhliwayo.
Mupeta concurred and said the Environment Management Agency, Police and the Ministry must quickly act before human life is lost.
