Beitbridge money changer’s house gutted by fire

BEITBRIDGE - A Beitbridge money changer, Precious Mbedzi is leaking her wounds after losing thousands of dollars’ worth of property in an inferno that razed the house where she stayed to the ground.
The house was gutted down by fire after her son, a grade five pupil allegedly left a candle burning.
The tragedy happened on Sunday and Mbedzi’s son has not been going to school after all his clothes were destroyed by the fire.
Mbedzi declined to comment and said that speaking to newspapers is not going to help her predicament.
Officer Commanding Beitbridge district, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo said he had not received the report by the time of going to Press.
Mbedzi’s neighbour, Itayi Ndlovu told Two Nations that the fire started around 12 midnight after Mbedzi’s son fell asleep leaving a candle burning.
The candle which was on a wardrobe shelf fell and set the house on fire, destroying all the property in the house including the landlord and other tenants’.
Mbedzi’s son escaped naked and was helped with clothes to put on by neighbours.
“Examinations will be starting soon and the child does not even have uniforms or shoes.” He won’t be able to go to school unless someone donates a uniform and shoes.
They really need help because they do not have anything left,” said Ndlovu.
