MASVINGO – A Mucheke woman in Masvingo who absconded bail on fraud charges was rearrested by Marondera CID last week after committing 16 fresh cases while on the run.
Patricia Magazini who stays at number 2563, Fifth street Mucheke A hit the headlines in 2018 after allegedly conning over 50 aspiring nurses of their hard earned cash by promising them places to train as nurses. The complainants paid anything between US$500 and RTGS$10 000.
Magazini was arrested and brought to Masvingo Magistrates Courts on February 2, 2018 where she faced 46 counts of fraud involving than US$60 000. She was given bail but immediately arrested by Police to face similar charges in Gweru.
The Gweru magistrate denied her bail but the accused’s lawyer later secured bail at the High Court.
She was freed on February 15 and has since then absconded bail and allegedly went on a spree to commit fresh fraud cases in Marondera, Mt Darwin and Chipinge.
She caused headaches for Police throughout the country as fresh reports were coming in.
Her cases were more sophisticated in that the crimes were allegedly committed using ecocash lines.
