GWERU - A prominent phone dealer and foreign currency vendor who operates from Bahadur Centre in Gweru has been arrested by Police after he allegedly stabbed a lover who had jilted him before slitting his own throat in an attempt to commit suicide.
Bruce Silwela (29) is admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital where he is under Police guard.
Midlands Police spokesperson Joel Goko confirmed the case which happened last Wednesday at the girlfriend’s house in Mkoba 18.
“l can confirm that Police in Gweru have arrested a 29-year-old man for attempted murder which occurred at Mkoba 18 where he severely stabbed his 30 year old ex- girlfriend after their relationship had broken down.
“The incident happened on September 18, 2019 around 9am at the victim’s house,” said Goko
It is alleged that Silwela went to his ex- girlfriend Daphne Ndebele’s house to seek reconciliation.
Silwela did not take his separation fromNdebele lightly although he is married and has a family.
Ndebele refused to reconcile with him and a misunderstanding arose. The suspect armed himself with a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Ndebele several times all over her body.
Ndebele fell down in a pool of blood.  Silwela panicked and attempted to slit his throat in a bid to commit suicide after realising that the complainant was unconscious.
The complainant’s brother who heard the noise from Ndebele’s room broke down the door and found the two lying unconscious.
The two were taken to hospital where they are both currently admitted.
