Fuel scam rocks Beitbridge Town Council

BEITBRIDGE – Senior officers at Beitbridge Town Council are being investigated over hundreds of liters of fuel suspected to have been siphoned from the local authority.
At the centre of the investigations are fuel order books that allegedly went missing. Impeccable sources told The Mirror that the scam was picked by the council audit committee and so far 500 litres of petrol are being queried.
The sources told The Mirror that one of those fingered in the scam is the Finance Director Anymore Mbedzi who is a signatory to the purchase of the fuel.
Mbedzi said there are procedures that are to be followed to establish whether the allegations are true or false. He however, referred further questions to the Town Clerk
“For now may be the best person to talk to will be the town clerk. There should be some proceedings which should be done to verify whether it’s true or not,” he said.
Ramakgapola said the matter had not been brought to his attention when The Mirror called him.
Impeccable sources said that a panel of enquiry comprising some town clerks and secretaries from other towns was being put together to gather evidence on the matter and it was supposed to start work today (October 17 2019) but this has been pushed forward allegedly because ….. who was supposed to be part of the panel has since been implicated in the alleged scam.
The allegations are that council was purchasing fuel from local garages but this was used for non-council businesses.
