CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) has received $1,1m being the second disbursement of the devolution funds and this will be used to sink at least eight boreholes.
In addition to the boreholes, the RDC is planning to build a clinic at Masukwe area in Chiredzi South using the funds.
Chiredzi RDC Chairman Edward Matsilele confirmed the development and said that his local authority has plans to buy a borehole rigge if Government release more funds.
Most of the boreholes will be in Chiredzi North where there are perennial water problems.
“We received the second batch of amounting to $1,1m of devolution funds from government at the end of last month and we made a resolution as council to drill boreholes in areas with perennial water challenges and most of the areas are in the resettlement areas of Chiredzi North. We wanted to acquire a borehole rigger but the funds were not enough since we were not going to buy other required essentials.
“So far we sited eight boreholes and a clinic at Masukwe in ward 13, Chiredzi South constituency. We first received just over $600 000 a few months ago,” said Matsilele.
