MASVINGO – This year’s edition of the Confederation of School Sport Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) ball games have been postponed to next year after the host country, Zambia cited financial incapacitation.
Efforts to get a comment from Namibia based COSSASA president Solly Duiker on his mobile number were not successful however, he is on record confirming the postponement to New Era online publication.
“The funds were released but it was already too late, member countries were not informed about the costs of accommodation and meals are and that affected their ability to get funding from their various governments,” said Duiker.
The games were slated for the first week of September and over 50 pupils from the country were expected to participate.
Masvingo National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) chairperson Colette Say said they were geared for the competitions with more than 15 pupils coming from Masvingo.
COSSASSA games are held annually with athletics in the first half and ball games in the second half of the year.
