CHIREDZI – Two inmates of Rudo Isimba Old People`s Home in Mapanza Mkwasine who died five months ago are still to be buried because the Social Welfare Department has not taken over the matter.
Home Coordinator Abraham Vengi dismissed speculation that the home was failing to bury the inmates because the traditional donors are accusing management of abuse of funds. He said the burial of inmates is the responsibility of Social Welfare and the department was informed of the deaths.
“We lost Agnes Mazana (70) in March this year and in June we lost Chatikobo Chatikobo (90) and the cause in both cases is old age. We informed Social Welfare and they are supposed to identify relatives and we are still waiting to hear from them,” said Vengi.
Vengi said there was no abuse of funds at Rudo Isimba.
District Social Welfare Officer Admire Emmanuel said his office will carry out its obligation to bury the deceased whose bodies are still at Chiredzi General Hospital.
A spokesperson for an organisation which used to make donations at the home said there has been abuse of funds at the home since the death of the founder Mrs Stockhill last year.
