Mwenezi RDC loses US$67k to car dealer

Mwenezi Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Albert Chivanga.

MWENEZI – A Harare car dealer has failed to deliver a Toyota Hilux double cab to Mwenezi Rural District Council, one year after being paid  US$67 000 for the car.
This has left councilors fuming and demanding immediate action against Harare-based Solution Motors.
The matter was raised during a full council meeting held at Neshuro Council Board Room on Tuesday last week.
Mwenezi RDC tendered for, bought and paid for the all-terrain vehicle from Solution Motors in May 2018 but the vehicle has not been delivered to date.
The meeting was told that council chair Jorum Ncube, the Chief Executive Officer Albert Chivanga and some MPs from the area actually visited the garage in September 2018 and were shown the vehicle. However delivery which was supposed to have taken place by July 2018 did not take place.
Efforts to get a comment from Solution Motors were fruitless.
Chivanga told the house that the matter was now with the local authority’s lawyers Ndhlovu and Hwacha Legal Practitioners.
Simon Chabata who is councillor for Ward 17 had expressed concern over the delayed delivery of the vehicle. He told the full council meeting that councilors have lost faith in the car dealer.
What irked councilors most is that the local authority is currently suffering critical shortage of vehicles.
