MASVINGO- Preparations for this year’s edition of Masvingo Province Miss Heroes are at an advanced stage with beauty queens trooping into camp today at the plush Flamboyant Hotel in the City.
Fourteen ladies from the Province’s seven districts have been selected to take part in the fourth edition of Miss Heroes which is held as part of the Defense Forces and Heroes Day commemorations, Galyl Mhonderwa of MG Modelling Agency who is behind the idea told The Mirror.
“We have finished district auditions and the 14 girls are ready for the main event on August 10 and they will be in camp from today (Thursday) at Flamboyant Hotel which is becoming the home of our pageants. They will also be staying there during the duration of the event under MG Modelling Agency and the hotel is one of main biggest sponsors.
“The other reason why we moved to Flamboyant (which is a better venue) from Charles Austin is that we want to make it a national event from next year as we have received many enquiries from models across the country,” said Mhonderwa who is also former Miss Tourism.
The event will start at 7pm and entertainment will be provided by males from across the Province said Mhonderwa.
“We are also holding this year’s event in honour of our departed heroine and former patron, Shuvai Ben Mahofa and the late Mr Chipika who was very supportive of this idea when we started in 2016,” said Mhonderwa.
The beauty queens will be expected to know the history of the country as they are groomed to be tomorrow’s leaders besides slugging it out on the stage during the big night.
Mhonderwa said every category will be telling its own story of that time like the 1960 wear, the military wear resembling the liberation struggle and the evening wear and culture.
There will be prizes for the Queen, the first princess, second princess, Miss lucky draw and Miss Culture, sponsored by Regency Group, State and businessmen from the Province.
Last year Cathrine Mudavanhu from Masvingo Urban was crowned Miss Heroes.
Meanwhile, those attending the pageant have been encouraged to bring a pad in support of the girl child.
