    Tongaat CEO Mtsambiwa retires

     Sydney Mtsambiwa

Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe managing director, Sydney Mtsambiwa who was elevated to the post of Acting Tongaat Hulett Chief Executive Officer for Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique in August last year, has gone on early retirement.
He leaves the company on July 31 2019 after serving the sugar giant for 29 years.
Aiden Mhere assumed the leadership of Tongaat Hulett after Mtsambiwa`s departure to South Africa. Gavin Hudson was appointed substantive Chief Executive Officer in February this year and Mtsambiwa assumed the post of Executive Advisor of Tongaat Hulett Sugar operations, a post which he was holding until his retirement.
He cut his stay by six months as he was supposed to retire in December this year.
Hudson said in a letter that the Zimbabwean operations had seen significant growth under Mtsambiwa’s management.
“Sydney Mtsambiwa the previous MD of our Zimbabwean operations and more recently the executive advisor to our sugar operations has decided to take early retirement from Tongaat Hulett effective 31 July 2019,” said Hudson in a letter.
The coming in of Hudson as overall Tongaat Hulett Operations CEO has seen implementation of many cost cutting measures both in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique which has seen hundreds of employees losing their jobs as the company moves to concentrate on their core business.
