KADOMA- Despite suffering a morale sapping 2-0 defeat in the semis by yesteryear`s defending champions Nyamauru from Manicaland, Mwenezi girls walked home with $4- 8000 after claiming third place at Copa Coca Cola.
Mwenezi edged Nkankezi with a solitary goal from Emma Nhlongwane in the third and fourth play offs falling 2-0 to Nyamauru in the semis whom they had beaten with a similar score line in the group stages of the tournament.
Natalie Mbavha who powered Mwenezi to this year`s finals and Emma Nhlongwane were selected to be part of the dream team; Mbavha was also voted player of the match three times in group stages.
This year`s edition of the U15 Copa Coca Cola finals was held in Kadoma over the weekend and Prince Edward Boys High claimed its maiden title edging Rusununguko while Mpopoma were crowned queens after winning 5-4 on penalties against Nyamauru.
Speaking to The Mirror, Mwenezi coach Taurai Mangena said that he is happy for having clinched third spot but he had high hopes of bringing this year`s cup back home.
“I am very happy that the young girls showed courage and put up a good fight leading us to emerge as third place winners of this tournament. “As you know this is our third time emerging as third winners and my desire this year was to emerge as winners or runners up,” said Mangena.
