Lawyers write to Chivi school head over Murowa Diamond

CHIVI – Parents in Ward 20 in Chivi have engaged lawyers in their bid to stop Murowa Diamonds from making noisy diamond explorations at St Simon Zhara Primary School.
In a letter which is in the hands of The Mirror, the parents through their lawyers Matutu and Mureri Legal Practitioners, wrote to the school head Munyaradzi Vhurinosara seeking an explanation on the type of arrangement that the school has with the mining company.
The parents wondered why Murowa Diamond was being allowed to make explorations in the school grounds thereby making noise for the pupils. They also alleged that the mining company was using school boreholes to get water and wondered who gave it the green light.
Efforts to get a comment from Murowa Diamond were fruitless.
Vhurinosara referred questions to the District Schools Inspector who could not be reached for comment.
The Provincial Education Director Zedius Chitiga said these were non education issues but community which the DSI should comment on.
Part of the letter from the lawyers reads, “our clients told us that Murowa Diamond is mining on school grounds making a lot of noise for the pupils thereby making the learning environment difficult.”
John Banny accused the school head of working together with Murowa Diamond to the detriment of the interest of school children and the community. He accused the head of denigrating parents each time they questioned the mining company’s activities at the school allegedly describing them as fools who did not understand big investments.
Chivi Ward 20 Councillor Alec Nhundu declined to comment on the matter saying the case was now in the hands of their lawyers.
