    Girl (10) bed-ridden since 2009

GUTU - Dorren Mutema, a 10-year-old girl is appealing for assistance to undergo brain surgery.Mutema has a heart-rending story where she has been bed-ridden since birth 10 years ago. Mutema who is affected by a condition called Cerebral palsy (CP) literally looks like a 9 months child and has been in the crib since birth.
Dorren’s situation came out in the public when her uncle Nhamo Makumbe of Chief Makumbe’s area in Gutu approached the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) at public hearings held in Masvingo as they tried to get assistance to acquire a birth certificate for her.
“The only thing she can do is eat and sleep. We feed her soft foods because she cannot chew hard foods like meat. She cannot walk, sit, talk, hear or turn on her own. We have failed to get any help from Social Welfare. They have for the past nine years just been making promise after promise.
“Her mother Antonia Mugwagwa has perpetually kept her inside the house. We have run out of ideas on how to deal with the situation. We cannot carry her to the DA’s office to acquire a birth certificate or move around with her,” said Makumbe.
Makumbe appealed for financial assistance from well-wishers so that the child can be taken for a medical operation. A health practitioner said a surgical operation on the girl should have been done when she was still young to avoid severe brain damage. He however, said there is still a chance to remedy and improve the situation
Cerebral palsy (CP), is  a group of permanent disorders that cause physical disability in human development and these affect body movement and affect sensation, vision, hearing, swallowing, and speaking.
