GUTU  – Chief Gutu who was led by two spirit mediums has reburied human skeletons found in the open in hills that are near Gutu Mission Hospital.
Speaking in an interview with The Mirror on Monday, Chief Gutu said it was a taboo in the African culture to see human bones lying around. He said human bones of three different persons were discovered by Dzeka in Samutumbu and Gato hills in June this year.
Traditional brew was prepared on the instruction of spirit mediums Kandisai and Mai Madziva and the remains were reburied during a ceremony held at Potoriro Village near the hills on Saturday.
Dzeka who stays at Gutu Mission was looking for firewood when he stumbled onto the remains. The remains of two other persons were discovered when Chief Gutu went to the hills to inspect the first.
“I heard that there were human skeletons in the hills and we believe that they belong to our ancestors. We think that they were buried in the caves but somehow they were now outside and we conducted a ceremony and returned them into the caves. We handled the remains with our bare hands,” said Chief Gutu.
