    Chief Bere appoints 5 headmen, business committee

    MASVINGO – The just installed Chief Bere; Phineas Tafirei has appointed an executive committee of 21 members comprising fundis in accounts, law, education and other fields in a move that points to a development orientated chieftainship.
    Bere has in addition appointed five new headmen to run the affairs of his chieftainship that was resuscitated in 2018 after 94 years of banishment.
    The appointees who were announced after a meeting at Flamboyant Hotel were selected from the chieftainship’s five houses that are Mboko, Mambanje, Muparuri, Mudyiravanji and Makamure.
    Virimai Bere was appointed headman Mboko, Gwarega Chakauya will serve as headman Mambanje, Grey Mapiye was appointed headman Mudyiravanji, Dzimbanhete Makamure was appointed headman Makamure. Headman Muparure is yet to be appointed.
    Dikinya Mapiya, a farmer will serve as chairperson of the executive committee and he will be deputized by Mahwekwe Mhorombe; Phineas Tafirei a lecturer at Masvingo Teachers College and will serve as minute secretary. David Masomere a teacher will serve as the organizing secretary and Brigadier General Toice Vhezha was appointed treasurer.
    Reginald and Jacob Chakauya from Mambanje house were appointed committee members while Cosmas Muparuri and Cleopas Chauraya will serve as committee members from Muparuri house. Conias Shazhu, Phineas Tafirei, Francis Svinurai, Francis Chihwai and Elias Masendeke were appointed from Mudyiravanji house, Dennis Makamure and Macwean Shanyurai were appointed from Makamure house. Victor Hwacha, Patrick Shiri and Thomas Gwatinyanya were appointed from Maturure house; Gilbert Majombo and Tito Mboko were selected from Mboko house. 
    Masomere said the newly appointed committee is looking for a place for the chief to stay and establish his court among his subjects. He also added that legal and business advisory subcommittees have been established.
    “We are seized with finding the chief a place to stay in his area and most of our people are dispersed hence we need to find places for them to stay. The committee has lawyers, teachers, accountants among other professions and this will professionalize any activities we undertake. We are grateful to Regency Flamboyant Hotel for allowing us to have our meeting here,” said Masomere.
