Bikita man pegs grave, commits suicide

BIKITA – A now deceased man from Bikita has sent tongues wagging after he came from a beer drink, pegged his grave and committed suicide soon afterwards.
Police Chief Spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident to The Mirror.
It is not clear why Phanuel Chionye (60) of Mukombondoro Village under Chief Mabika committed suicide but sources said that he told his wife Chipo Mukanga (45) that he wanted to build a house for himself before he went out into the bush to collect some sticks.
On returning, Chionye marked the grave on the ground measuring 2 metres by 1 metre. His daughter questioned him and he said that he was marking a site where he intended to build his house.
The deceased’s wife and daughter went to fetch water a few kilometres from their homestead and were shocked on their return to find Chionye hanging from a Musawu tree. They cut off the rope since he appeared to be breathing but it was too late. He died before he was taken to hospital.
