    GWERU –
Several home seekers who gave evidence before the Commission of Inquiry into the sale of State land in and around urban areas since 2005 have described Smelly Dube as a powerful and well connected person who could make their lives miserable if they cross her path.
Dube’s River Valley Properties is the biggest private land developer in Gweru and Bulawayo selling over 1 500 stands to home seekers.
Ida Chivione told the Commission that she got her residential stand withdrawn at Hertfordsheir Phase 2 by Dube for simply complaining against the lack of development in her area.
She told commissioners that she was paying for a stand through the Salaries Services Bureau since 2015 and last year she wrote an affidavit to the then Minister of State for Midlands, Owen Ncube complaining against the lack of development and for that Smelly withdrew the stand where she had constructed a 5-roomed cottage and re-advertised it.
Smelly allegedly ordered Chivione to withdraw the affidavit from the Minister and apologise to her if she wanted her stand back.
When l later visited my stand there was a stone at the corner written vacant and it was placed by River Valley.
“I want to also put it on record that there are many civil servants who are having their money deducted from SSB but have never seen their stands and they are not complaining because they are afraid of Smelly,” said Chivi.
